Is God Cruel?

There is No Future in Rebellion

None of us has a choice to NOT participate in this horrible experience we call Sin. Like it or not, we are all stuck here, and we are all just going to have it ride it out for however long our lives should last. However, there is a choice that we all have been given: we can either bow our knee to this troublesome God who is perfectly willing to temporarily allow evil to run rampant in this earth, or we can angrily shake our little fists in His face as we curse Him, and then head out on our own to make our way the best we can.

This is our choice: Chose God or reject Him. We can take the positive chance that just maybe all of the Bible's good promises that everything will turn out all right in the end really are true, or we can seek our own little way, as we frantically try to grab up all the possible pleasures we can before our puny eighty-or-so years worth of life finally crumbles into the grave, that black, filthy pit of eternal death.

So how will I choose? The Bible encourages me to embrace God as my Creator, Savior, King and Lord, and if I should do so, there is a Heaven that awaits me. But, if I should reject the rule and reign of God over my life, the Bible warns that my destiny is none other than eternal destruction:

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."  Romans 6:23

I don't know about you, but to reject God, even if He does appear at first glance to be weak, capricious or cruel, is just too big a risk. The Bible is clear that rejecting God as your Creator, Savior, King and Lord will always end in sorrow, pain, death and loss -- the very things I am trying to avoid!

And what do I gain by my rejection of this "Cruel God?" All I can hope for is a small season of eighty years or so of sinful pleasures. Temporary euphoria and relief, followed by an eternity of what? At the very best all the haters of God can hope for is an eternity of nothingness. Reject God and get eternal nothing? Or choose God and get eternal Heaven? I think I'll choose a Loving God who gives me Heaven!
