Is God Cruel?
Christian Hell -- Pagan Heaven
|
When I first started my job as Administrative Assistant at the University of California, Riverside Printing department, I had an IBM computer that I used to create spreadsheet models and perform word processing. Before I got the job, this lone computer in the front office mostly gathered dust, because the front office staff were either computer illiterate or computer phobic, and they had failed to grasp it's full potential in making their jobs easier and far more effective. But when I came, I unleashed its full potential, which made my boss pretty excited, so he began pressuring the Estimator in our office to begin using the computer for her job tasks. She was very computer phobic, so she fought it off as fiercely as possible. Since money was tight, my boss initially rented a portable computer for her that had a miniature screen that was only about 3" square. Needless to say, it was very hard to read, and my Estimator raised loud howls of protest when it was given to her to use. My bosses' solution to her long, loud protests was to swamp computers -- she got my full-sized PC and I got the miniature screen. This was grossly unfair since half of my job required the computer, which I was now forced to do on this hard-to-read portable PC. Meanwhile the better computer sat in her office as an expensive paper- weight, since she never even attempted to use it! This set of circumstances at first was very annoying to me, as I struggled to create and manipulate my spreadsheet models on such a tiny screen, but then I learned from the Holy Spirit this valuable lesson: as a Christian, this world is my Hell. However, this is the worst it gets for me, because after this comes Heaven. As for Pagans, this devastated, sin-trashed world is their Heaven, because unless they receive Jesus as their Savior, after this comes Hell. As a Christian, my Hell is not that bad; but for Pagans, their Heaven is horrible! Therefore, why not let the Pagans have the best of everything? If this vile world is their Heaven, then the least I can do as a Christian is make it as good for them as possible. After I heard that divine message, it no longer seemed such a big deal that my Pagan co-worker got and misused the better computer while I struggled undeservedly with the little one. I was at peace knowing my little miseries were only temporary. But do you know what? My Good God went to work for me, and within only three weeks, we BOTH had full-sized computers when my boss rightly recognized my need for a full-capacity machine. In fact, over the past eight years my manager has constantly upgrade my computer, so now I have the fastest and best PC in our front office -- even more powerful than my bosses' PC! So as a Christian I do endure some suffering in this world, but it is ALL only temporary! Praise God! |
