God's way is to give people a glorious promise, which He then promptly puts to death! If you are not prepared for it, when the crushing blow strikes the hand-delivered promise that was given to you personally by your Heavenly Father, God will surely appear to be absolutely malicious. He promises you some great thing, but when you go to grab it, all you get is a handful of thorns and stinging nettles!
This principle has been identified as "The Death of a Vision," and the classic example of how this works can be seen when God told Abraham a son would be supernaturally born to him in his old age. Genesis 15:1-6 The first "death" for Abraham is that it took God 25 years before that promise was fulfilled, and the second death came after Isaac was born, when God told Abraham to literally kill his young son. Genesis 22:1,2 How could a Good God do such a thing!?!
Well, it surely is a mystery, although it must be acknowledged that once Abraham proved himself faithful to God's frightening command, the Lord did stop Abraham's descending knife, and Isaac was returned to his father, alive and unharmed. Genesis 22:9-12 Be warned that this is a very common method of God's dealings with men, to give them a beautiful and magnificent promise, only to then take away every possible means of you fulfilling that goal or dream.
God told David He was going to be king, but the Lord "forgot" to mention that the current King Saul would spend over ten years trying to murder him, and that David would spend many anguished years being a fugitive in his own nation! 1 Samuel 16:1,13 & 26:17-25
For reasons of His own, God first will give you a promise, and then He will come and put it to death. However, if you stay faithful, God also comes back with a resurrection of that promise, making it more glorious than ever. If you aren't prepared for this principle, watching your Holy Dream die can be excruciatingly painful; but the Lord's Way has now been made known to you, so you can relax when everything falls apart, because then comes resurrection!
